KARACHI: The Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) has released November’s water-supply deficit figures, attributing a severe shortfall to persistent power outages at major pumping stations across the city.
According to a KW&SC Spokesperson, Karachi suffered a loss of 884 million gallons of water during the month as repeated electricity suspensions by K-Electric halted pumping operations for hours at a time.
The most severe impact was recorded at the Dhabeji pumping station, where 132 hours and 20 minutes of power cuts led to a shortfall of 424 million gallons.
At the Dumlottee station, 146 hours of outages resulted in a deficit of 111 million gallons, while the North East Karachi station reported a shortfall of 335 million gallons.
Smaller deficits were also noted at other stations: 6 million gallons each at the Hub and Pipri facilities, and 2 million gallons at Gharo.
KW&SC officials said repeated shutdowns not only interrupted supply but also put pumping machinery at risk. They urged K-Electric to ensure stable, uninterrupted power to all main pumping stations and called for urgent measures such as alternate feeders, standby cables, and technical upgrades to safeguard the city’s water infrastructure.
The Spokesperson added that KW&SC remains in continuous coordination with K-Electric. Water supply across Karachi has returned to normal following the restoration of electricity, and efforts are under way to strengthen the system to prevent future disruptions
