At least 13 people have been killed in an Israeli air strike on a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health.
The drone attack targeted a car in the parking lot of a mosque in the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp near Sidon. The strike also wounded at least four individuals, with ambulances still transporting the injured to nearby hospitals.
Israel claims the strike targeted members of Hamas operating a training compound within the camp. Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated, “We will continue to act forcefully against Hamas’s attempts to establish a foothold in Lebanon and eliminate its elements that threaten our security.”
However, Hamas denied the allegations, calling them a “fabrication” and denying any presence of training facilities in Lebanon’s refugee camps, condemning the attack as “barbaric aggression.”
Earlier today, Lebanon reported two additional fatalities from Israeli strikes on vehicles in the southern regions of the country. The ongoing violence follows recent Israeli operations targeting Palestinian factions, including Hamas, amid the escalation of conflict following Hamas’s attack on southern Israel in October 2023.
