KUWAIT CITY:  At least 13 people have died in Kuwait after consuming methanol-laced alcohol, Arab media reported on Friday.

According to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health, the incidents occurred over the past five days, leaving dozens hospitalized. At least 21 people have been left completely or partially blind due to the toxic liquor.

Authorities said 50 patients required immediate kidney dialysis, while 31 others were placed on ventilators for respiratory support.

Investigations are underway to trace the source of the contaminated alcohol and hold those responsible to account.

According to the report, all the people affected by the incidence of poisonous liquor are immigrants and are from Asian countries who work in Kuwait.

It is worth noting that Kuwait has maintained a complete ban on alcohol imports since 1964, with the production and sale of alcohol also prohibited domestically. However, illegal liquor sales persist in the country, often leading to such tragic incidents.
