Scooter Braun has finally broken his silence on the Taylor Swift feud.
For those unaware, Braun purchased Big Machine Label Group in 2019, which also included Swift’s master recordings of her first six albums. This led to long-standing feud between the pair and the Blank Space hitmaker vowed to re-record her albums, which were later released under ‘Taylor’s Version’.
Notably, this also led to intense backlash from Taylor Swift’s fans, affectionately known as Swifties.
During his appearance on The Diary of a CEO podcast recently, Scooter Braun called the backlash “deeply unfair.”
Recalling Swift’s viral Tumblr post, Braun said, “I was just shocked. I don’t need to go back into it, but what I can tell you is everything in life is a gift.”
“Having that experience allows me to have empathy for the people I worked with who I would always say, ‘Yeah, I understand.’ But I never knew what it was like to be on the global stage like that. I never knew what criticism like that felt like,” he added.
It is worth mentioning that this comes after Swift recently regained control of her masters after a year-long battle with Braun during which she also released re-recorded albums.
Sharing an open letter on her website Taylor Swift wrote, “I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away. But that’s all in the past now. I’ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found that this is really happening. I really get to say those words. All of the music I’ve ever made … now belongs… to me.”
On the other hand, Scooter Braun also claims that the experience gave him perspective.
“All the praise I had received up until that moment was not deserved. All the hate I got after that moment was not deserved, because none of these people knew me. The gift of pain was awareness,” he said.
