Finneas recently got candid and opened up about being tear-gassed during a “very peaceful” protest in Los Angeles.
Taking to his Instagram Story on Sunday, June 8, the 27-year-old American singer-songwriter and record producer talked about getting tear-gassed at a protest in downtown Los Angeles which was against recent mass ICE raids in Southern California and claimed it was a “very peaceful” protest.
Referring to increasing conflicts between military presence and federal agents in the city, he scribbled on his story, “Tear-gassed almost immediately at the very peaceful protest downtown. They’re inciting this.”
Notably, the protest was one of many happening in the city after President Donald Trump sent National Guard troops to Los Angeles and California officials called that move “unconstitutional and inflammatory.”
The Grammy-winning artist also shared a video that showed a rubber bullet hitting Australian 9News reporter Lauren Tomasi while she was reporting. Police in L.A. were firing crowd control munitions to break up the protest and one of the rounds hit Tomasi in the leg, which made her cry out and hold her calf.
It is pertinent to mention that 9News also released a statement to confirm the incident and the safety of Tomasi and her camera reporter.
“While reporting from protests in Los Angeles, 9News reporter Lauren Tomasi was struck by a rubber bullet,” the statement read. “This incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent dangers journalists can face while reporting from the frontlines of protests, underscoring the importance of their role in providing vital information,” the statement read.
