The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday directed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary and inspector general of police to submit affidavits in a petition challenging the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned long march on September 27.

During the hearing, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advocate General questioned the court’s jurisdiction. He also complained about non-compliance with court orders and the alleged failure to fix cases for hearing.

The opposition party has announced nationwide protests and a long march towards Islamabad on September 27 to demand the release of jailed party founder Imran Khan.

During the hearing, Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar remarked: “Should the court fix cases at your request?” He observed that scheduling cases falls within the court’s administrative authority.

The hearing was subsequently adjourned until September 14.

Meanwhile, PTI has decided to convene an all-parties conference before its planned long march and has initiated contact with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and other political parties.

A PTI delegation also visited the residence of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, where the two sides held consultations on the opposition’s parliamentary role and broader political matters.

KP CM Afridi recently led the party’s five-day mobilisation campaign across Sindh to build support for its demands, including the release of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan and his immediate medical treatment.

Ex-PM Imran, 73, has been in prison since August 2023 following convictions he and his party have described as politically motivated.

Since his ouster in April 2022, he has faced multiple cases, while some convictions were suspended or overturned and several appeals remained pending.
