Andrew Garfield loves the ‘Robin Hood’ chaos

Andrew Garfield has apparently entered his “don’t tell me what’s happening” era.

The actor admitted he’s been so unplugged lately that he still hasn’t watched Spider-Man: Brand New Day or The Odyssey.

So when the marketing for his upcoming historical drama The Uprising briefly appeared to transform into a Robin Hood movie, Garfield was completely out of the loop.

The campaign sparked confusion on August 20 after the film seemingly became The Uprising: The Rise of Robin Hood.

The subtitle was later clarified as a tagline, with the movie’s actual title remaining The Uprising.

Garfield, however, isn’t complaining. In fact, he’s perfectly happy to let the internet do its thing if it gets people into theaters.

“We’re in a time of chaos. There’s no formula to getting people to see a film,” Garfield told The Hollywood Reporter.

“However that happens — whether it’s me eating chicken wings with hot sauce, or people talking about Robin Hood or a deranged horse — I just really believe in [The Uprising]. Whatever gets people to see it in a communal experience, like they’ve been doing all summer with other movies — that’s my hope, my dream and my prayer. So bring on the deranged horse.”

That “deranged horse” is a callback to the viral first-look image from We Live in Time, which featured Garfield and Florence Pugh alongside a particularly unhinged carousel horse.

Set during England’s 1381 Peasants’ Revolt, The Uprising follows Garfield’s Ploughman as he joins real-life rebels Wat Tyler and John Ball.

And while Robin Hood influences the story, Garfield says fans shouldn’t expect a traditional superhero-style reveal.

“The Robin Hood aspect is more of an emergent energy and archetype within our story,” he said.
