Kid Cudi and Kanye West have buried the hatchet once again.
On Friday, August 4, Kid Cudi — whose real name is Scott Mescudi — joined his former mentor on stage as Ye promoted his latest album, Bully, in a two-night show in his hometown of Chicago.
Cudi’s appearance was a rather unexpected surprise for hip-hop fans, given that just last year, Cudi insisted there was “no coming back” for their friendship after Ye’s infamous Heil Hitler song.
However, the Day ‘n’ Nite hitmaker took to X over the weekend to explain that he has forgiven Ye, who had been “dealing with mental health struggles” for years.
“That man is my brother… Damn near 2 decades of art and friendship,” he wrote in response to radio DJ Peter Rosenberg.
Cudi continued, “Ive been around Ye, and I can honestly say talking to him now is how it use to be when I first signed to him, but even better. He was dealing w mental health struggles for years and now hes good. Everyone deserves some grace when they family. I was the hardest on him out of anybody. I held him accountable. He apologized and it was sincere. But like I said, u not family so I get it.”
The pair’s fallout latest falling out goes back to 2022, and it wasn’t the first time in their near two-decade friendship that they were at odds.
What happened between Kid Cudi and Kanye West?
In April 2025, Kid Cudi told CBS Mornings that although Ye was “a really good friend once,” he doesn’t see them being friends again because of the “man that he has become.”
“I just don’t know that guy anymore,” he noted amid Ye’s controversial song and online outbursts, which Ye later ascribed to manic episodes.
However, their falling out stemmed from Cudi’s friendship with Pete Davidson, who briefly dated Ye’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian after their divorce was finalised in 2022. Feeling betrayed, Ye announced that Cudi will not appear on his Donda album “because he’s friends with you know who.”
Notably, that wasn’t the first time Cudi and Ye had a falling out. When Cudi left Ye’s G.O.O.D. Music label in 2013, things appeared calm for a while. But by 2016, tensions began rising when Cudi slammed Ye in a series of tweets. At the time, Ye said he forgave Cudi, and the pair patched things up within a few months.
However, they would continue to have ups and downs over the next few years.
