Security forces eliminated 12 India-backed terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Kalat district of Balochistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.

According to the military’s media wing, the IBO was conducted on September 2 on reported presence of terrorists belonging to Fitna al-Hindustan.

“During the conduct of operation, terrorists hideout was identified, monitored and busted through prompt surgical action by own forces killing all 12 India-sponsored terrorists,” the ISPR said.

A cache of ammunition and improvised explosive devices was also destroyed on-site, it added.

According to the ISPR, sanitisation operations were being conducted to eliminate any other India-sponsored terrorist found in the area.

The military vowed that the relentless counterterrorism campaign will continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.

Separately, the Balochistan police foiled an attack by terrorists in Bhag city, preventing the militants from taking control of the Bhag police station or seizing weapons from the facility.

Adviser to Balochistan CM Shahid Rind said that some 40 terrorists attacked the police station, bank and assistant commissioner’s office with heavy weapons, rockets and hand grenades.

At least two policemen and three civilians were injured in firing by the militants, he said, adding that the terrorists failed to loot any cash from the bank.

According to Rind, the Bomb Disposal Unit defused an IED planted by the terrorists inside the bank.

Pakistan witnessed a surge in terror activities, particularly in its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, since 2021, when the Afghan Taliban came into power.

According to a report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the two provinces remained the country’s main hotspots for violence during the second quarter of 2026, with KP emerging as the worst-affected region.

The report stated that KP and Balochistan together accounted for nearly 96% of all violence-related fatalities recorded during the quarter. Of the total deaths, more than 61% (475) were reported in KP, while Balochistan accounted for 34% (265).

KP also recorded the highest number of violent incidents, with 151 cases, representing 57% of the nationwide total. Balochistan followed with 94 incidents, or 35%, underscoring the concentration of militant activity in the two provinces.
