Phoebe Bridgers is making her acting debut in Primetime, which will be released on September 25 and the first glimpse of her character has sparked a new excitement among fans.
The 32-year-old indie musician will be play a decoy tasked with portraying both boys and girls on To Catch a Predator, in director Lance Oppenheim’s film who she has known for a long time.
Speaking about Bridgers, Oppenheim said, “I’ve always known her to have an incredibly deep, almost baritone speaking voice, and I was then amazed that someone who had such a deep speaking voice could produce this beautiful, angelic singing voice.”
The director continued, “With how she’s able to use her voice in different environments, I kept thinking, ‘That’s exactly what a decoy would do.’ I remember texting her like, ‘This is so random, but I think you are perfect for this part,’ and she responded, ‘I don’t really act, I’ve never done it, I don’t know how.’”
However, he told The Hollywood Reporter that he was able to finally convince the Moon Song hitmaker and the rest is history.
Excited fans flocked to social media and reacted to the first look, writing, “She looks completely amazing in this preview. I can’t wait to see her performance on the big screen.”
Another added, “Phoebe Bridgers in an A24 predator-hunting thriller is the most random yet perfect casting,” and “So that’s why she had blue hair a couple years ago.”
While one chimed in, “The first look alone has me sold. Anyone else adding this to their September watchlist?” and “i didn’t know this was happening WHAT.”
