Bunnie Xo is setting the record straight about her reaction to her divorce from Jelly Roll, saying people are “mistaken” about how she has handled their split.

Appearing on Jenna Bush Hager’s Open Book podcast on Thursday, September 3, the 46-year-old podcaster opened up about the heartbreak she experienced after the country star filed for divorce earlier this year. While she has largely avoided displaying her pain publicly, Bunnie said that doesn’t mean the breakup didn’t affect her deeply.

“There [were] moments when my team had to pick me up off the floor and give me IVs,” she said. “Because I wasn’t eating. I was eating baby food to get by. I lost 20 pounds. Heartbreak, man, it’s the best freaking diet.”

Bunnie, whose real name is Alisa DeFord, and Jelly Roll, real name Jason DeFord, married shortly after beginning their relationship in 2016. After nearly a decade together, the Grammy winner singer filed for divorce in May, with their split finalised two months later.

Bunnie said people are “mistaken” about her reaction because she isn’t “crying in my phone on social media” or publicly documenting every painful moment.

“I did one time in 2018 and it’s on my YouTube and I vowed to myself that I would never do that again,” she said. “Because one, that’s super vulnerable, but two, I don’t feel like that is productive in any way.”

She acknowledged that divorce is a “very devastating situation” before explaining why she wants to focus on healing.

“I want to show people resilience. I want to show people rebuilding and knowing that, like, yeah, my heart was shattered, but guess what? It’s healing, and it’s coming back even stronger.”
