Olivia Rodrigo just pulled off her first ever all-women music festival, and she’s already looking forward to the next one.
The pop star’s Daisy Chain Fields festival had a widely successful inaugural run on Saturday, August 30, at Great Park in Irvine, California, featuring Mitski, Doechii, Chappell Roan, and more. The festival donated $10 million to nonprofit partners supporting women and girls.
And according to a new message shared by Rodrigo, the festival will return even bigger and better next year.
“Seeing daisy chain come to fruition yesterday was the greatest joy of my career,” the 23-year-old wrote in an emotional Instagram statement after the festival. “I am still in a bit of disbelief that it happened and I still feel incapable of properly expressing the gratitude that I feel for every person who believed in this vision and fought so hard to make it a reality,” she added.
The Grammy-winner shared that after everyone left, she and her friends took a long look at Yoko Ono’s Wish Tree installation at the entrance of the festival, which allowed festival-goers to write down their hopes and tie it to a branch.
“We read so many of them. Some were silly like i hope my dog lives forever or I hope my hair grows longer etc,” Rodrigo reflected. “But by and large almost every tag said the same thing. everyone hoped for the world to be more peaceful, they all hoped that the people they loved were happy, they all hoped to make a difference.”
Rodrigo admitted that the notes made her emotional as they reminded her why she founded Daisy Chain Fields in the first place: “The artwork reminded me of how we are all much more alike than we are different. and how deep down, we all just want to help each other and make the world a better place.”
She continued, “Yesterday, daisy chain felt like just that. a collective hope that things can get better and a reminder of how much we really care about people at the end of the day.
Rodrigo concluded by thanking fans for showing her that “joy is a part of the solution” as she teased, “until next yearrrr.”
