Two suspected militants are killed in a Washuk operation as violence remains concentrated in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

ISLAMABAD: A security operation in Balochistan ended with two suspected militants dead Monday, underscoring the continuing challenge of armed violence in the province.

Security forces carried out the intelligence-based operation in the Palantak area of Washuk district against militants affiliated with what Pakistani authorities call Fitna al-Hindustan, security sources said.

The two militants were allegedly involved in attacks on the Mashkel police station and Customs House, according to the sources.

During the operation, security forces destroyed the militants’ vehicle and recovered weapons and ammunition. The sources said the arms were intended for targeted killings and other attacks in the province.

Authorities said security operations against militant groups would continue as part of efforts to eliminate the threat in Balochistan.

The operation comes as Pakistan continues to face elevated militant violence, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Both provinces have remained the country’s main hotspots for security incidents.

The Centre for Research and Security Studies said Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa accounted for nearly 96% of all violence-related fatalities recorded across Pakistan during the second quarter of 2026.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 475 deaths, representing more than 61% of the national total, while Balochistan reported 265 deaths, or about 34%.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also recorded the highest number of violent incidents, with 151 cases, accounting for 57% of the nationwide total. Balochistan followed with 94 incidents, or 35%.

The figures highlight the concentration of militant activity in the two provinces and the continuing pressure on security forces to contain armed groups.

Pakistani authorities have pledged to maintain operations against militant networks and strengthen security measures in areas facing repeated attacks.
