Liam Payne’s sister Ruth Gibbins has marked what would have been her late brother’s 33rd birthday with a deeply emotional tribute.
On Saturday, August 29, she shared a series of personal memories on her Instagram Stories, telling the former One Direction star how much she continues to miss him.
The doting sister remembered the Teardrops singer as “the best brother ever”, reflecting on the memories they shared and the painful reality of celebrating his birthday without him.
Alongside a photograph of a birthday cake decorated with the number 33, Ruth wrote about the little moments that made Liam’s presence so special, including their family traditions and memories from his years growing up.
In one poignant passage, Ruth described wishing she could go back to moments they shared and relive them.
Her tribute ended with a message that captured the depth of her grief, “Liam, you are every wish I have for you to come back, every 11:11, every moon, butterfly, rainbow.”
She continued by saying that she and her family will carry him with them, before signing off with a simple but devastating sentiment, “love always, in every lifetime.”
Ruth also revisited a post from Liam’s previous birthday, sharing a 2024 memory in which she had written, “I don’t know what I’d do without you, love always xx.” This time, the words carried an entirely different weight.
Across the two posts, the contrast is striking: one celebrates a brother who was still there to receive the birthday message; the other remembers him in his absence.
Her final message summed up the heartbreak of the day: “I still don’t know what I’m doing without you.”
For the unversed, Payne died on October 16, 2024, at the age of 31 after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
