LAHORE: Pakistan’s women’s cricket team has departed for Dubai for the Women’s Asia Cup, with captain Fatima Sana leading the side into the regional tournament.
The team completed its training camp before departure, including practice matches against a boys’ team. The Women’s Asia Cup is scheduled to run from Aug. 28 to Sept. 13.
Pakistan will open its campaign against Thailand on Sept. 1, followed by a highly anticipated clash with India on Sept. 5. The team will play Hong Kong on Sept. 7 in its final group-stage match.

Pakistan suffered an injury setback before the tournament when wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi was ruled out with a left knee injury. The Pakistan Cricket Board said Najiha reported pain behind her left knee Monday, and scans indicated a possible sprain.
After a full assessment by the PCB medical team, Najiha is expected to begin rehabilitation, with her recovery potentially taking up to four weeks.
Right-handed batter Sadaf Shamas has been named as her replacement.
Pakistan will now turn its attention to its opening match against Thailand as Fatima Sana’s side looks to build momentum and advance through the group stage.
