Grint, now 38, says he ‘can’t wait to meet’ Ron Weasley again nearly two decades after he last played him

Rupert Grint is dusting off the old robes as he prepares to head back to Hogwarts nearly two decades after he last played Ron Weasley.

The original Harry Potter star will reprise his iconic role in Broadway’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, joining the Tony Award-winning production at New York City’s Lyric Theatre for a limited 17-week run beginning February 2, 2027.

“Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again in this stage of life,” Grint, 38, said in a statement. “There is something so full-circle and so special about stepping back into Ron’s shoes now when we are both fathers; it is somehow both very familiar and completely new.”

“And the joy of being back on Broadway, this time in a role that defined so much of my life is truly exciting,” he added.

Grint first played Ron at just 11 years old, starring alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson throughout all eight Harry Potter films. The trio spent a decade growing up together on screen, wrapping up their journey with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 in 2011.

Cursed Child picks up the story 19 years later, with Harry, Ron, Hermione and Draco now parents themselves. The play follows the next generation as Harry’s son Albus and Draco’s son Scorpius embark on a time-travelling adventure that eventually pulls their famous parents back into the action.

Grint becomes the second original Harry Potter star to join the Broadway production after Tom Felton’s run as Draco Malfoy.
