Miley Cyrus has broken her silence following the death of her godmother Dolly Parton.
A day after her death was announced on Tuesday, August 25, Cyrus took to her Instagram to share a heartbreaking tribute for the Queen of Country.
“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share,” the 33-year-old began, explaining that their “most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts.”
The Flowers hitmaker then revealed how she plans on processing the loss, which includes writing a song in honour of Parton.
“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong,” Cyrus shared, adding, “I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis.”
The Grammy-winner continued, “I will always love her and want to make her proud. My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply. We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things.”
Parton passed away at the age of 80, four days after she was admitted to a hospital in Nashville for kidney and autoimmune issues. Her representatives told People magazine that she had faced “a brief battle with cancer.”
