The minister called the e-sports championship a valuable platform for youth to display their skills.

KARACHI: More than 1,000 teams will battle for a Rs3 million prize pool as the Sindh government kicked off its second annual E-Sports Championship 2026, with an opening ceremony held at Liaquat Library in Karachi on Monday, Aug.23.

Gamers across the province will compete in three major game titles like PUBG Mobile, Tekken 8 and FC 27. Preliminary rounds will run at university campuses, and semi-final matches will move to popular shopping malls across Karachi before the tournament reaches its climax.

The grand final is set for the first week of October at the Expo-Centre Karachi, where the province’s top gaming talent will face off for the championship title.

Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Sindh Sports Secretary Munawar Ali Mahesar led the opening ceremony as chief guests. During the event, organizers honored 24 athletes and coaches, including boxers and ju-jitsu competitors, for their strong showings at national tournaments. He said celebrating these wins would inspire more young people to get involved in sports.

The minister called the e-sports championship a valuable platform for youth to display their skills, part of a broader push known as the “Next era of champions” initiative.

Nasir Hussain Shah added that the provincial government is working to widen opportunities for young people, not just in traditional sports but also in technology and competitive gaming.

He also commended Mahesar for organizing sports activities throughout the year and confirmed that new efforts are underway to discover and nurture athletic talent at the grassroots level, ensuring Sindh’s next generation of champions gets the support they need to succeed.

With huge registration numbers already surpassing last year’s turnout, organizers expect the 2026 edition to be the province’s largest gaming event yet.
