Anne Hathaway has apparently reached the point where even her baby bump needs a fact-check.
After announcing her pregnancy in June with the sweet caption “Baby, I’m yours”, the 43-year-old actress has faced an unexpected wave of internet commentary while promoting The End Of Oak Street.
The drama started when Hathaway stepped onto a Los Angeles red carpet wearing a cropped light-blue top, low-rise jeans and a dramatic train that showed off her growing bump.
Instead of simply admiring the look — or moving on with their day — some internet users decided to investigate her stomach.
One commenter claimed, “Looks like a fake stomach. The belly button looks unreal.”
Another called it a “prosthetic bump,” while someone else wrote, “As someone who has kids, her belly looks like those fake ones they use in movies.”
Hathaway seemed more amused than bothered. In a behind-the-scenes video while preparing for another appearance, she addressed the speculation with a cheeky line: “Fake hair, real bump.”
The outfit itself also became a target, with critics calling it “awful,” “tacky” and “bizarre.” But plenty of fans came to her defense, praising the actress for looking “radiant.”
The backlash is particularly ironic considering Hathaway has already survived the infamous “Hathahate” era, which began around her 2011 Oscars hosting stint and continued after her Les Misérables Oscar win.
Looking back, she once admitted feeling “uncomfortable” during the awards frenzy.
“I tried to pretend that I was happy and I got called out on it, big time. That’s the truth and that’s what happened. It sucks. But what you learn from it is that you only feel like you can die from embarrassment, you don’t actually die.”
Years later, Hathaway seems far less interested in pleasing the internet — and honestly, who could blame her?
She’s pregnant, booked, busy and promoting movie after movie. The comment section can apparently wait.
