Shirley MacLaine sent a warm message to fans ahead of a special screening of her 1969 film Sweet Charity at the Southampton Playhouse.

In a video posted to Instagram, the 92-year-old actress said, “Hi, Southampton Playhouse. Wish I could be with you. I would like to see ‘Sweet Charity’ again. Now, while you’re watching it, remember how hard we worked.”

She added with characteristic humour, “And between you and me, it didn’t do very well, so I hope you guys like it,” before signing off with “Much love” and blowing a kiss to fans.

The screening is set for August 25 at 7 p.m. ET.

Fans responded warmly in the comments, with many expressing excitement to see the veteran star still active and in good spirits, calling her a “living legend” and one of the last great stars of Hollywood’s golden era.

MacLaine starred in the Bob Fosse-directed musical comedy as Charity Hope Valentine, a taxi dancer at a Times Square dance hall.

Though the film received mixed reviews upon release, it earned three Academy Award nominations, for Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design and Best Score of a Musical Picture, along with a Golden Globe nomination for MacLaine’s performance and a Laurel Award for top female comedy performance.

MacLaine has continued to make public appearances in recent months, including outings in Malibu in April, just before her 92nd birthday, and in March, when she was photographed enjoying oysters and a beer at lunch.

She’s previously credited her longevity to a lifelong dance background, telling PEOPLE in 2024, “I started my dance training at age 3 and stopped at about 67. It taught me discipline, loving music, working with people and dealing with pain.”
