LONDON: Prince William and Prince Harry are reportedly set to reunite next year to mark the 30th anniversary of their mother Princess Diana’s death, as their strained relationship continues despite their shared respect for her legacy.
The brothers were last seen in the same room two years ago at the funeral service of their uncle, Robert Fellowes, reports said they did not speak or even look at each other during the event.
King Charles III has reportedly made efforts to keep the door open for Harry, but William is not believed to be ready to repair their relationship.
The brothers, however, remain united in their love and respect for Diana. Both have supported her legacy through their work, while the Diana Award remains the only organization associated with both princes as patrons.
William and Harry had previously put aside their differences for the unveiling of Diana’s statue five years ago. He said their relationship has since become more difficult, William would find it difficult to meet Harry even for an event honoring their mother’s memory.
William believes the future king considers Harry part of his past and is focused on his future with his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. William has reportedly remained upset over several actions by Harry and is not expected to compromise on the issue soon.
Diana, Princess of Wales, was born Diana Frances Spencer on July 1, 1961. She married then Prince Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II, in 1981 and became one of the world’s most recognizable members of the British royal family.
Diana and Charles had two sons, William and Harry. Her public work, charity campaigns and international popularity made her an influential figure far beyond Britain.
Diana died on Aug. 31, 1997, following a car crash in Paris, her death drew worldwide attention and sparked an enduring public interest in her life and legacy.
For William and Harry, their mother’s memory remains one of the few areas where they continue to share common ground. However, whether that bond will be enough to bring them together for the 30th anniversary remains uncertain.
