Rare Michael Jackson footage is giving fans a special look at the singer during his biggest years.
The videos show Jackson visiting his old family home in Gary, Indiana. He looks through family photos, talks about his childhood and jokes with people around him.
The footage was filmed in 2001 for a documentary about Jackson’s life. He wanted cameras to show his work, his famous friends and his connection to his past.
One part shows Jackson meeting a young Beyoncé, who was only 19 and starting to become a big star.
Jackson, however, also jokes about his old bedroom and the changes made to the family home.
At the time, the late legend was still facing public attention over earlier abuse allegations, which he denied.
Things became much more difficult while the documentary was still being filmed. In 2003, police searched Jackson’s Neverland Ranch as part of a criminal investigation.
The Billie Jean singer was later found not guilty in his 2005 trial. The documentary was never completed after television networks lost interest.
Producer Marc Shaffel kept the unused footage for years so now he wants to bring it back with a new film called The Real Michael.
The clips, moreover, also show the music icon having fun as in one scene, his cousin sprays him with expensive perfume inside his limousine as a joke.
Shaffel believes the footage could now give fans a rare look at Michael’s life.
