Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands was also present and formally signaled the start of the championships.

AACHEN, Germany: Queen Mary of Denmark unexpectedly drew attention away from fellow royal and Olympic equestrian Zara Tindall with a surprise appearance at the FEI World Championships in Aachen.

The Danish queen arrived with two close friends, Malou Skeel and Helle Trolle, at an opening ceremony attended by several members of Europe’s royal families.

Zara Tindall, an accomplished Olympic equestrian who won a gold medal for Great Britain in eventing at Aachen two decades ago, was among the prominent figures taking part in the opening ceremony at the venue.

Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands was also present and formally signaled the start of the championships. Infanta Elena, the eldest sister of King Felipe VI of Spain and a former Aachen competitor, attended as the guest of honor.

Queen Mary wore a flowing caramel-colored polka-dot ensemble for the occasion. Princess Amalia opted for a fresh green-and-white striped outfit, accessorized with a green clutch and delicate gold jewelry.

Princess Benedikte of Denmark, the sister of Queen Mary’s mother-in-law and royal patron of the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses, was also among the guests at the event.
