Ariana Grande is aware of all the scrutiny surrounding her weight, and now she’s letting her feelings known.
On Tuesday, August 4, the pop star “liked” an Instagram post by New York-based psychotherapist Terri Cole encouraging people to stick with their health journey even if their loved ones turn against them.
The post shows Cole applying makeup in front of a mirror along with the text, ““Unfortunately, I can confirm that not everyone will like the healthier version of you… That’s okay. Get healthier, anyway.”
Cole, who has nearly 300,000 followers, further explained in the caption that personal growth can change relationships. “That tension can be awkward to deal with sometimes,” she wrote. “There are going to be people who celebrate the healthier version of you…and you might have those who miss the version of you that was stretched thin, keeping everyone else happy + comfortable.”
She continued, “Keep growing and prioritizing yourself regardless. You have more strength than you likely give yourself credit for, and every step you take to honor your boundaries is proof of that.” Cole also wrote that “people who are meant to be in your circle will love and appreciate your growth,” rather than “just the parts of you that make everything comfortable or convenient.”
Grande, 33, didn’t comment on the post, but her “like” spoke volumes.
Earlier in the week, her representative confirmed the Grammy-winner plans to take a “much-deserved break” once her eternal sunshine tour ends on Sept. 1 following “endless, ongoing public scrutiny.”
Addressing fans during a recent Chicago concert, Grande said the criticism would not define her. “No matter what noises exist out there, nothing will ever be able to distort my reality,” she said, adding that her decision to step away “was not a reactive or impulsive” one. “It is something that I have decided, a plan that I had quietly made a long time ago and it’s a decision that was made from a thoughtful and empowered place,” she explained.
