Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy said it “targeted and stopped” three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz after the vessels allegedly ignored its warnings, according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency.
The IRGC did not disclose the names of the tankers, their owners, the exact location of the incident or the nature of the alleged violations. However, Tehran has rejected the use of a southern shipping route along Oman’s coast.
In a statement, the IRGC said the “illegal interventions and orders” of the United States would not go “unanswered by vessels in the region.”
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for Iranians to “fight the enemy and stand firm against them so that we do not submit to injustice and oppression”.
“In the same way, we cannot oppress our citizens or commit injustice against them,” the IRNA news service quoted him as saying.
Pezeshkian added Iran has proven a “unique model of resistance”.
