Pakistan’s monsoon death toll has reached 43 and 177 injured in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the latest reports released by the provincial disaster management authorities.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said 21 people have died and 154 others have been injured in weather-related incidents across the province since the beginning of the monsoon season.
According to the authority, two people were killed by lightning, 15 died in building collapses, three died from electrocution, and one person drowned. The PDMA said no deaths have been reported so far involving people swept away or trapped in floodwaters.
The heavy rains also caused partial damage to 38 houses, while one livestock animal was killed.
The director general of the Punjab Disaster Management Authority warned that the risk of urban flooding and flash flooding remains high as the current spell of monsoon rains continues.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said 22 people were killed and 23 others were injured in separate rain-related incidents, including roof and wall collapses and flash floods.
The victims included nine men, 10 children and three women, while the injured included 11 men, five women and seven children.
The authority said the rains affected 37 houses, with eight destroyed and 29 sustaining partial damage.
The affected districts include Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Shangla, Swabi, Lower Chitral, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Tank, Torghar, Kurram, North Waziristan and South Waziristan.
